Best Time to Go to Italy
Italy is a fantastic destination year-round, but the best time to visit depends on your plans. In winter, the northern regions of Italy, including the Dolomites, Alps, South Tyrol, and Aosta Valley, are popular for skiing, with the ski season running from November to March. Winter is also a great time to explore major cities like Rome, Florence, Milan, and Bologna, which can be overwhelming in summer due to the heat.
Spring and autumn are ideal for city breaks, with pleasant weather that’s sunny but not too hot. These shoulder seasons are also perfect for hiking. If you're visiting Venice, keep in mind that the Venice Carnival takes place in spring (February/March), while the Venice Film Festival and the Regatta Storica (a rowing regatta through the canals) happen in autumn (September). Easter can be busy across Italy due to elaborate celebrations, but it’s a wonderful time to experience local culture.
For beach holidays, summer is the peak season, especially in the south of Italy, Sicily, and Sardinia, where you’ll find great swimming conditions and vibrant coastal life.
