Best time to go to Málaga

Málaga, located along the Costa del Sol – or “Coast of the Sun” – enjoys sunshine nearly all year round, making it a reliable choice for a holiday no matter the season. Summers are long and hot, with July and August seeing highs around 31°C and sea temperatures reaching a warm 24°C. If you'd prefer to avoid the busiest months, May (with highs of 24°C) and September (around 28°C) are excellent alternatives, offering great weather with fewer crowds. Even in the depths of winter, January daytime temperatures average a mild 17°C, with around five hours of sunshine – ideal for sightseeing without the heat.

How to get to Málaga

Once you land at Málaga Airport (AGP), there are several easy and affordable options to reach the city centre:

• Line A Express bus – Takes around 15 minutes, costs €4 one-way, and runs regularly from early morning until just after midnight.

• Terravision coach – Also takes about 15 minutes and costs €9 for a single ticket, with hotel pick-up and drop-off included.

• Renfe Cercanías C1 train – Reaches Málaga Centro-Alameda in roughly 12 minutes, with tickets priced at just €1.80. Services run from early morning through to just past midnight.

• Taxi – A convenient door-to-door option, especially for groups, costing around €25 to the city centre.

Getting around Málaga

Despite being one of Spain’s largest cities, Málaga’s tourist heart is compact and walkable. Many of the top sights are centred in the Old Town, making it easy to explore on foot. For a broader overview, the City Sightseeing hop-on/hop-off bus offers a 24-hour ticket that covers three different routes, with stops at all major attractions and free entry to two museums.

Public buses are run by EMT and are reliable and affordable – single tickets cost €1.40. If you’re travelling in a group or planning multiple trips, the bonobus multi-ticket offers better value at €0.84 per ride (minimum of 10 rides).
