May to October is when temperatures, rainfall and humidity are at their lowest, during the southeast monsoon. While July to September are busy times for tourists – with prices and demand for accommodation high – the strong winds mean choppier seas, especially around the southern islands, which are great for sailing or windsurfing, but not so good for boat trips or sea fishing. Inland, however, it's a great time for walking and exploring the islands.
November to April is the hottest and wettest season, with less wind; heavy showers are more frequent in the northwest monsoon, which peaks from mid-December through to January. This period can also be busy with visitors during the Christmas holidays. Rain tends to fall in short bursts, so it's still a great time for the beach and sightseeing.
Shoulder seasons: The best times for many people to visit are April to May and October to November, especially if you want to avoid the rain and high winds. These are also perfect for snorkelling and diving, as the waters are calm and clear.
