How to reach El Arenal

• Flight time: There aren’t any direct flights to El Arenal itself, but you can fly into Palma de Mallorca Airport, which is the nearest airport. Typically, flights from Dublin or other major Irish airports take around 2 hours and 30 minutes.

• Transfer time: Palma de Mallorca Airport is about 10km away from El Arenal. You can hop on the airport bus, and it’ll take you straight there in about 20 to 25 minutes, traffic depending. If you fancy a taxi, that’ll get you into the heart of El Arenal in roughly 15 minutes.

• Price: Expect to pay between €30 and €40 for a taxi from the airport to El Arenal. If you're looking to save a few quid, the bus is a good option at around €5 each way.

Best time to visit El Arenal

El Arenal is a lovely spot to visit all year round thanks to its mild weather, but when you decide to go really depends on what you want to do—whether you’re keen to just chill on the beach or get out and see more of the island.

• May to September is peak tourist season, and you'll see plenty of people soaking up the sun on the beaches. Average temperatures hover around 25°C in May and can push up to 32°C in the height of summer, with hardly any rain. The vibe gets quite lively in July and August, but be prepared for higher accommodation prices.

• April and October are great in-between months where it’s still warm enough for the beach, usually ranging from 18°C to 25°C. You'll find fewer crowds, making for a more relaxed experience and better deals on accommodation.

• November to March brings cooler temperatures, generally between 10°C and 17°C. It’s a lovely time for scenic walks and exploring the island, though you might experience some rain now and then. Just keep in mind that some attractions could be closed since it’s off-peak season.

• Spoken languages: The main language in Majorca is Spanish, but you’ll find that English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

• Local habits and customs: If you’re dining out in the evening, don’t be surprised if it’s around 9 pm—dinner tends to be later than what we’re used to in Ireland. And remember, the afternoon siesta is still a thing, with many businesses closing between 2 pm and 5 pm. So, it’s best to dress appropriately when you're away from the beach.

• Currency: The Euro is what you’ll be using in Majorca. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are easy to find.

• Getting around: El Arenal is well served by local buses (EMT); a single fare is about €2. If you plan on doing a fair bit of travelling, grab a multi-use travel card. Taxis are easy to come by, but if you want to explore the island more, renting a car might be the way to go.

• Electricity and plug types: In Majorca, you’ll be using 220 volts with the standard European two-pin plug. So, if you're coming from Ireland, don't forget your travel adaptor!
